How to play minecraft survival mode

Minecraft. The cubic masterpiece that has taken the world by storm twice now, and shows no signs of slowing down. Minecraft is a 3d first person adventure game created by Mojang in 2009. In Minecraft you can play on multiplayer servers or enter a creative game and build whatever your imagination desires with an unlimited block palate. Minecraft is beneficial for your creativity, exploration skills and problem solving ability, which is why I will be showing you how to survive and thrive in one of the main and funnest gamemodes in Minecraft; Survival mode.

Now. When you enter a minecraft survival game (I called mine “Speech World lmao”, you will be placed into a randomly generated “biome”, or simulated area of terrain with types like desert, swamp, jungle or mountains. I started in a hilly forest biome. When you first “spawn” into the world, your first job is going to be finding trees. This may be difficult or easy depending on what biome you are in. When you get to a tree, hold down your left click or respective “left” button – this is your attack/destroy button – while looking at the trunk of the tree. Keep holding until you have destroyed a log block. Once you have destroyed the entire tree you should have a stack of however many logs the tree was made from. Now it’s time to start making some basic wooden tools

To start you’ll need a crafting table. To do this you need to convert your logs into wooden planks. Press ‘e’ to bring up your inventory. Here you can craft small objects, store items and wear armour. Place your logs in the 2×2 grid in the top right. This is your crafting area. Wooden planks should show up in the box to the right. Click and keep clicking on these until your logs are depleted and you have a stack of wooden planks in your inventory. Arrange these like this in a 2×2 grid in your crafting area and click once to get a crafting bench. Place it in your taskbar (The part of your inventory that comes up when you are roaming around, seen here at the bottom of the screen) and left click on the ground while holding the crafting bench. This will place it on the ground. Left click on it again to open the crafting interface.

The crafting bench has a larger 3×3 grid for crafting, unlocking more crafting options for larger and more complex items and blocks. You can place two wooden planks like this to create sticks, and then use the sticks and spare wooden planks to create these tools; Sword, Pickaxe, Axe, Shovel and Hoe. Once you’ve made these, dig down into the grass with a shovel in hand. When you get to stone, switch to a pickaxe and mine it to collect cobble stone. Also try searching for some coal ore, which is similar to stone, but contains flecks of black. With these items, you can build a door, furnace and torches. For food, try and kill some animals on your first day, or if you’re a vegatarian, start a vegetable farm.

With these basic skills, tools and items, you are ready to undertake an amazing survival mode adventure. If you ever get stuck, there are numerous guides and videos online, as well as a “recipe book” built into the game that shows you the crafting recipe for every item available. Stay near your spawn or venture the world. Build a modest underground base, or a vast floating sky city. Travel to the firey nether and spacey end, or just chill and cook some beef by your campfire. The only limit is your imagination. And even then, that limit is all the way up at y = 256.
